And then I found a little site called Etsy. And...I like Owls? ...Dammit?

So, are we all caught up thus far, dear blog readers? I'm looking for things I like because I never invested much time into these sorts of thoughts before.

So I've spent this last week making a favorites list. Blogs I like, Colors I like, Websites I like. And so on and so forth. You get the picture. Mr. V was downtown (if you could call it a downtown, with it's three blocks) and got me all sorts of free brochures and magazines from Pottery Barn and such. I even created a little folder called pretty sites I like to look at. Because I figure if I simply look at pretty things I'll feel prettier and I will be more likely to put on makeup for Mr. V.

And he'd be hella fly with that.

Oh, and can I just confess that I really don't like to curl my eyelashes. So I just stopped this week and the world did not come crashing down as I thought it would. Actually my eyes look better. I have to wear mascara though. A girl can never win.

And I've been a computer hog and poor Mr. V will probably need to use it more next week to make up for my hoggyness.

I've found all sorts of cool sites I like that I never thought I'd even like. And no, they aren't all about sex. ; )

Now, nothing has stood out particularly in my hunt for designs & colors I like until I clicked on a little site called Etsy.

Suddenly, as fog manifested and the lights dimmed and disco ball appeared, I saw it on the screen staring back at me: AN OWL.

Not just any Owl, this was THE Owl. So, fine...technically, there are TWO. Whatever. ; )

Sister Owls by yumiyumi
I stared at the Owl for some time, letting it consume me. What was this feeling mustering deep inside my bosom? Could it be that I ACTUALLY LIKED THIS OWL?

And what was the Owl, exactly? Was it a coaster? A painting? A further check showed me it was a painting. And suddenly, I KNEW. I had to use these colors and Owls in my daughter's bedroom as we repurchase her bedroom contents. This would be A THEME.

WAS I REALLY CONSIDERING A THEME? *GASP* Oh, the shame! Because I'm just not a theme-y type girl. I've had fights with the Inlaws because I didn't do a theme in my son's room and they're very theme-y type people and in conversations with Mr. V I've always been like "no way in hell your mom is getting me to do a theme." And he's very anti-theme himself and has a very pottery-barn-restoration-hardware-only-find-it-at-a-garage-sale type of style

I sat back and contemplated. I told Mr. V, who just looked at the Owl and said he thought it looked a bit 1950's. But he said to do whatever I wanted and he'd like it because I did it. Awwww.

Enlightenment and Buddist Monk type Glee.

I like Owls. Who (no pun intended) would have thought?

P.S. it dawned on me that I am a night owl. So there could be a correlation after all.

Daily Gratitudes:

1. The web. I have the world at my fingertips.

2. Mr. V didn't make fun of me for this startling revelation.

3. Mr. V watched our son today while I took the daughter to her doctor appointment. He could have done something else and I'd have both kids for over an hour at that appointment.

4. My daughter does not need Forest Gump braces, like I used to wear. Thank goodness.

5. She got some vaccines and she's cranky. But at least she's healthy.

Etsy is a great place! I recently started selling things on there. I also spent a lot of time there today planning out the decorations for my new house. SO FUN! The owls are super cute!

Fear not. Those owls are NOT a theme, they are a concept. If, however, you hauled a tree trunk into the corner of your daughter's room, covered it with silk leaves, and put stuffed owls on the branches, that would be a theme. The print has lovely colors and lines to use as inspiration.

And I don't even know if I'll BUY the owl picture, I like what you said here, Holly, about it being a concept. I like the style and the colors, etc. I'm excited to see where this goes!

This step your taking into Theme Living is a slippery slope--Christmas Sweaters are next.

Haha! And I just got a knifty knitter loom set from my mom (she's in town this week). WATCH OUT, MR. V!!! Christmas sweater time!

Can I mail you some of the owl stuff in my house? I'm not a particular owl lover, but because of some important scout leadership training thing he attended (Wood Badge?), my husband is now an owl. So we get owl stuff. I'm not sure what to do with it.

I myself am more of a pig person.

I have wasted many an afternoon on etsy. I found a series of chicks that I became semi-obsessed with...
So, did you get the owl?

Hi! I just wanted to say thanks for stopping by my blog! It's pretty random and sometimes I get preachy about the things I care about, but at least it gives me an outlet! I'm glad you want to get your kids involved with service. I'm a guidance counselor, and I've found that the kids who volunteer are so much better equipped to handle the real world, plus there's a lot of scholarship money available for kids who volunteer!

Organic food--oye, that stuff is expensive! I buy what I can, but it adds up so quickly, and now with a baby on the way and me not working from October to June, we're trying to save every penny!

It's nice to "meet" you and I hope to check out your blog as frequently as I can!!

Owls aren't a theme. Just an animal. Tell yourself that.
But tell your in-laws it's a theme. Points. :)

Love the owls! They are adorable and will look wonderful in a kid's room. I always pick some sort of object or theme when redecorating a room. Start with something small and then work outward to create an overall feel.
Good luck and have fun. And, thanks for stopping by my little site. I'm a bit partial to pigs.

From the pictures I've seen you do NOT need a nose job! :)

Don't go to Sunshine's Creations:

It's a crazy waste-of-time. Simply no good. Don't follow any of the tutorial links. It doesn't even have any owls.
