Zen in 2010
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 3:19PM
Each year we've chosen a new motto. This past year was dubbed "Looking Fine in 2009". And we kind of achieved it. I've lost about 25 pounds over the year and Mr. Valentine lost about 40. Neither of us did much in terms of muscle gain but perhaps after things settle in here a bit.
Our new/old house is amazing. It's huge and the layout is so much more friendly for kids. The living room area is so big and yet the kitchen/dining area is so big too, it's easy to make either a social/play/learning hub. All the ceilings are 12+ feet throughout so it makes each area very spacious.
We're in, but not necessarily organized yet. It's become slow moving because my daughter has double ear infections and the rest of us are sick, too. But as we get better and more organized, our motto "Zen in 2010" is going to take shape and I'm excited to get things organized and simplified.
I started thinking about how chaotic things always are in our lives and looking back I've never been organized. And it's extremely bothersome because I cannot stand NOT being organized. I hate it. My house has always been in upheaval or under construction of some form or I've been in the middle of pregnancies and working full time. Now that things have settled in after the fire, I pray things can stay semi-calm so I/we can get ahead. With that thought in mind, I loved this idea from Karen at Karina, Ink. She uses Lobotome planner pages, which look super useful and easy and even fun and pretty.
Daily Gratitudes:
1. Google Feed Reader. I have never subscribed to feeds before or kept a list of them organized but now Google does it all for me. Thanks, Dear Blog Readers, for the recommendation!
2. The health care bill has passed. Somewhat. I know there is still a long road ahead toward any actual changes.
3. We're alive. That counts for a lot.
4. We have enough for now.
5. Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. Looking back to a year ago, we'd just moved into this house (odd to move back into it again the same time a year later after the fire and have it look so different). We'd just filed bankruptcy and foreclosed on our prior home. It was a very stressful time. We've come a long way.

Glad things are looking a little better for you. When you figure out zen, let me in on the secret -- I'd like a little of that.
I was just thinking about you the other day because it had been a while since you had posted. I'm so glad to hear you're moved into your new/old house. The space is going to be great! I love your family's motto for 2010. I need to be more zen as well. Maybe I'll try it along with you!

You are awesome. I like it, "Zen in 2010" - life is all about that isn't it?
And Google Reader - yes, saves my life. Although it hates me right now, won't let me unsubscribe to anything, which keeps me caught in my geek blogger phase

Thanks for the link love! Congrats on the weight loss this year! That is such a huge accomplishment! Zen in 2010 sounds like a fabulous motto...things are just going to go up from here on out and it sounds like you are already on your way to a much (muuuuuch) happier year!

In my heart of hearts, I know you considered "Feed Mike in 2010" for your slogan.
And I thought your motto was going to be "move to utah and live next to stephanie and be her walmart buddy" Obviously more catchy then "Zen in '10"... but WHATEVER! ;-P
You need to post pics of the new house. Sounds amazing. woooo hooooo
