Dragons were Dinosaurs! and Other Random Things I Am Becoming Obsessed With
Monday, January 11, 2010 at 5:21PM
Wow. The recent decisions I have made sparked a new sort of obsession. No longer am I interested in the latest update on The Huffington Post. Instead, I want to read National Geographic. I want to read all about history, the beginnings of mankind and their art, culture and ways of life. I am fascinated with Egyptians and how advanced they were.
There is a neat theory that the artwork throughout early civilizations which depicts man fighting dragons is really depicting man fighting dinosaurs.
I can't wait to find out more. If I could go back to college at this point in my life, I'd study anthropology and theology.
I hope everyone is well! I didn't make an official 2010 resolution because I knew I'd probably break it on January 1st. But I hope your resolutions and new year are going well!

By all means, read and learn! Knowledge is a beautiful thing. And I hate to
burst your bubble, but dinosaurs and humans never coexisted.
There are many theories, even in LDS theology, that express an opinion that man (the human race who houses the spirits of the Children of God) are not the only 'intelligent' race/type of individuals have ever lived on the earth. The idea is that many other 'celestial-type' creations of God have lived on this earth for millions of years -- proving the earth whether it was capable of housing God's greatest and most celestial creation -- us. We have this principle of "line upon line", and I personally can't imagine God putting US on the earth without proving the earth first -- making sure that it was "good". By this, I have no problem as a Latter-day Saint with the idea of cavemen, dinosaurs, evolution, or any other scientific understanding that places the earth at millions of years of age.

An all knowing god would need to test the earth to make sure it was good enough? Makes total sense.
The problem is that we have zero evidence of other intelligent beings/races existing before humans.
Yeah, with an all knowing god, kinda makes ya wonder why Hitler was born and why god didn't just cut out all the travesty in this life before it happened. An all knowing, powerful, and loving god that allows such mischief. Either he is a weak god because he could not cut all that out, or his is a mean god for allowing it to happen -- right? Yeah, save your blather...
From an LDS theological perspective, all things have intelligence -- even inanimate objects (this doctrine should even apply to all Christianity as well). All things have their agency and freedom to exist in the sphere in which God has created them, and just as we learn line-upon-line -- so does the rest of God's creation. To prove all things herein whether they will be obedient in the sphere in which God has placed them. Intelligence in this context is more than just the capability of rational thought as we know it.

The things you mention are questions of free will, which is entirely different from the question of an all knowing being testing things.
That's like saying an all knowing engineer would need to test different models of an engine to see which worked most efficiently. There's no need. the being already knows.
And im still waiting for that evidence that inanimate objects have intelligence. I'll wait.
